Easy Knitted Adult Hat

Size 13 - 16 inch circular needle (or if you know how to do the "magic" loop, a longer circular needle is ok)
4-ply or thicker yarn (if using regular 4-ply, hold 2-3 strands together)

Cast on 44 stitches. Do not turn.

Starting with the first cast on stitch, knit 2 purl 2 around.
Continue going around this way until the piece measures about 11 ½ inches.
End at about the same place in the circle where you started although this is not critical.

1st Decrease row: Knit 2 together. Purl 2 together around once. 22 stitches left on the needles.
2nd Decrease row: Knit 2 together around once. 11 stitches left on the needles.

Cut the yarn leaving about 12-15 inches.
Using a needle or crochet hook, thread the yarn through the stitches remaining on the needles and pull to gather tightly.
Tie off so that the stitches remain gathered.
Work in some yarn to hide and cut off or use to tie on an optional pom-pom.

Use the thread at the beginning of the hat to tie the first stitch in the first row to the last stitch in the first row. Work in to hide and cut off.
